On March 14, 2024, in Kilinochchi and Mullativu, Ms. Azusa Kubota, Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), launched her first mission to monitor the progress of the Strengthening Smallholder Farmers and Micro/Home-Based Agriculture Industries for Enhanced Food and Livelihood Security (JSB) interventions carried out in Kilinochchi, Mullativu, Trincomalee, Polonnaruwa, Mannar, and Anuradhapura districts.
During her visit, she attended the opening ceremony of the Animal Feed Processing and Animal Production Centre, which was established under the JSB project of beneficiary V. Ravivarman in Visuvamadu West GN division in Mullativu district. During her visit, the progress of maize cultivation by the beneficiary, V. Shanthira, in Visuvamadu West GN Division in Mullativu District was also observed.
Several informal gatherings and discussions were held during the visit with the farmers, LDO officers, and brooder farmers of the area about the progress made and difficulties they faced during the period.
Also, the progress of the mini hatchery of the brooder farmer, K. Kalaiamuthan, in the Thiruvayaaru GN division of Karanchchi in Kilinochchi District was also observed. She highly appreciated the effort of the BSF unit (black soldier fly), which was established for chick feeding.
UNDP executes the JSB project with financial support from the Government of Japan. The South Asia Partnership-Sri Lanka (SAPSRI) is the local civil society organization involved in project implementation activities in Kilinochchi and Mullativu Districts.
