Latha wants to help others prosper in the coir industry.

Latha‘I took part in the SAPSRI rope making training programs, which taught me how to twist rope and create mats. When I noticed that there wasn’t much profit in simply producing and selling rope, I moved into mat making, which brings in bigger profits. I received a loan from SAPSRI to buy a press machine to help me produce the mats.

The most important thing the project has given me is confidence in my abilities. I am now able to deal with business partners more effectively, talk to leaders of organizations in order to get my work processed and request help without feeling intimidated. I have a good relationship with government officials and have even been asked to join some government officials in coordinating their political activities.

I am happy that I now work in an environment that is free of corruption, where business is conducted with the highest level of transparency so that everyone earns their fare share.

I would like to get more people involved in the industry to bring more money into the community. I am keen to pass on what I have learnt to others and look forward to helping others prosper in the business.
I knew that a lot of hard work was required on my part to rebuild my career and improve the standard of living for me and my family. With support from SAPSRI, I did it. I love my work, and I look forward to a brighter future where I can not only help my own family, but others around me as well.'
