“I am S. Latha living at 543, Thulana in the Allistan Village, Thiruppan Divisional Secretariat in the Anuradhapura District. I am a pioneering member of the Sap Sri Lanka Women’s Society begun in our village in 2001. From 2001 up to 2018 I have taken loans from Sap Sri Lanka Organisation on several occasions.
It was impossible to get any loans from local banks as we couldn’t show a proper income. I couldn’t believe in my luck when I was fortunate to get a loan of Rs. 3000/- the first time. The second time it was increased to Rs. 7500/=. I utilised this money to do agricultural work. The third time, I got a loan of Rs. 30,000/= and used it to buy a hand-sawing machine to cut trees. With this my life improved because we could earn a steady income.
In the fourth and fifth times, I was able to get loans up to Rs. 50,000/= and Rs 100,000/=. My aim in taking these loans was to complete the half-built house where I was living, and I am proud to say that because of the loan programme introduced by SAP SRI LANKA, I own a lovely small house.
I am happy to say that I was able to complete the loan payments successfully. After completing these loans my next aim was to find a way to make my living. I discussed this over with my family members and we came to the decision that it would be best if we started a business to hire equipment which would be needed for weddings or funerals. We thought about the workability of this and came to a decision to start this business. We initiated this in a small scale with the money we have saved up to that time. Again, I got a loan from SAP SRI LANKA for Rs. 200,000/= and with this money I bought 250 chairs to hire. It has become a very profitable enterprise now.
I want to reiterate that my family and I have been able to improve our way and manner of living simply because of SAP SRI LANKA and no other. I was able to improve our life style, build our house and also was able to direct my children to a worthwhile higher education. I am proud to say that I have a permanent and stable income just because SAP SIR LANKA was behind us always lending a helping hand. I thank the Coordinator of our District Mr. P. K. Ranatunga with heartfelt gratitude for his constant encouragement and also for making us believe in ourselves.”
